After Liverpool made contact, £38m Euro 2024 star is now close to signing for Juventus instead - journalist

Liverpool might want to bring in a host of new players this summer but they look like missing out on one potential new arrival to Juventus.

The Reds are looking at a number of positions this summer as they look to back Arne Slot in the market and ensure the squad is good to go on day one.

As with any transfer window, a number of names have already been thrown Liverpool’s way.

However, it is in defence where one of the strongest links has emerged.

Reports have suggested that Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori is a player very much admired by the Reds and it’s even been claimed contact has been made by Liverpool.

But now, it looks like the defender could be on his way to Turin instead.

Liverpool target Riccardo Calafiori set to sign for Juventus

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Bologna are working on a deal with Juventus to sell Calafiori.

Taking to X to provide an update on the situation with the Italian defender, Tavolieri has said that a deal is bring thrashed out that could be worth around £40m and the expectation now is that Calafiori does indeed sign for Juve.

Liverpool will need to be patient this summer

With English clubs scrambling to get deals done to avoid PSR issues and the Euros going on as well, the market is a little bit distorted at the moment.

For Liverpool, this means they might need to just stay a touch patient as they look to bring in new players over the summer.

Calafiori does look a great young defender and he’d have been just fine as a signing for the Reds.

But there are others out there as well and with Arne Slot now in charge, the Reds need to stay calm and assess the market as the summer goes on.
