‘Inquired’: Chelsea have asked about signing ‘direct’ striker, Manchester United want him too – journalist

Chelsea are still very much in the business of signing a new forward at some point in this transfer window.

It has been reported that new manager Enzo Maresca is not keen on starting the season with only Nicolas Jackson available as a first team striker option.

This hints towards the fact that Armando Broja is still not likely to be at the club, with him set to return from Euro 2024 after Albania were knocked out.

A number of names have cropped up on the shortlist for the Blues, however one previous target has emerged in recent days to be near the top of that list.

Jonathan David has been a name mentioned for a number of transfer windows now, and the fact his contract is set to run out next summer suggests he could be available for a cheaper fee.

Chelsea inquire about Jonathan David

Journalist Florian Plettenberg took to Twitter to state that the Blues had inquired about a potential signing, although they were not the only Premier League side interested in a deal.

He said: “Chelsea and West Ham are seriously interested in Jonathan David. Chelsea have inquired about the 24 y/o top striker from Lille in recent days. West Ham have also gathered information. He’s also on the shortlist of ManUtd.

“A move to the Premier League is currently the most likely. David, on the verge to leave Lille this summer with one year left on his contract. Price valuation at this stage: €20-25m!”

Enzo Maresca wants Marc Guiu

Any striker coming in at this stage is likely to be playing second fiddle for now to Jackson, who deserves another chance to start after his very impressive opening campaign in the Premier League.

If Maresca was to get his reported way, the club would finalise the addition of Marc Guiu, with it being claimed that he is leading the charge to bring him in from Barcelona this summer.
