‘Obviously’: Scott McKenna shares when he plans to make a decision on his future amid links to Celtic

The future of Scott McKenna looks set to become clearer now that the Celtic-linked defender’s participation in Euro 2024 with Scotland is over.

Scotland’s defeat to Hungary ended McKenna‘s involvement and now allows him to focus on where he sees his next career step.

After beingreleased by Nottingham Forest, reports suggested that the 27-year-old could be on the verge of signing for FC Copenhagen.

Well, it seems that no decision has yet been made as McKenna reveals a timeline of when he is likely to decide on where he sees his future.

McKenna plans to ‘relax’ amid Celtic links

The Scotland defender has admitted that he felt frozen out at Forest despite having a successful first two seasons at the club making over 100 appearances.

After spending the final year of his contract out on loan, it did seem like his time at the English side was over. Now a free agent, McKenna plans to get some much-needed rest.

McKenna said [The Herald Sport print edition page 3], “It’s a case of going away, trying to recover. It’s been a long season for a few reasons.

“Obviously starting the season at Forest and then being frozen out was something I’d never experienced and that was testing at times.

“Then going to Copenhagen and getting to play for the last six months has been stressful. So it’s time to go and relax, put the feet up for a few weeks and see what develops.”

Brendan Rodgers does need to look at getting a reliable first-team defender to slot in beside Cameron Carter-Vickers for next season.

Don’t get me wrong, Liam Scales did a fine job for the Celtic manager last season but some high-profile errors did make fans question whether or not the Republic of Ireland international is the long-term central defensive solution moving forward.

Whether McKenna is the answer to that remains to be seen but as a free signing, surely adding the international defender to the squad is a low risk bet worth taking?
