Outlet claim reported Celtic goalkeeper target has made decision on his future

The Celtic goalkeeper hunt is ongoing and plenty of names have been mentioned as potential successors to Joe Hart.

Among the most prominent links to have entered the public domain are Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka and Sparta Prague stopper Peter Vindahl Jensen, though there haven’t been any further developments on either saga.

Aston Villa’s Viljami Sinisalo and Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers are also on the Hoops’ radar, yet it is still unclear who will be Brendan Rodgers’ number one.

Nevertheless, there is one man that won’t be coming to Celtic this summer if reports surrounding his future are to be believed.

Celtic interest in Alex McCarthy set to fall by the wayside

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has reportedly been a target for Celtic amid the reality that his contract is up with the newly promoted Premier League.

Despite this, TEAMtalk claim he is now poised to sign a new deal on the South Coast, bringing any interest from the Bhoys and Liverpool in his services.

Republic of Ireland stopper Gavin Bazunu is set to be out of action until 2025 due to an injury problem, and Russell Martin’s men have acted swiftly to enter negotiations to retain the former England international, which now look like they will be successful.

Per Transfermarkt, the 34-year-old made nine appearances last term, including keeping a clean sheet in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final against Leeds United to help the Saints win promotion.

Either way, he won’t be Celtic’s new goalkeeper amid fresh reports, forcing Rodgers to turn his attention to elsewhere on the market.
