Newcastle now have complete control over 'world class' player after talks with Yasir Al-Rumayyan - opinion

The final week of June was always going to be wild for Newcastle United, and that has proven to be the case. However, Toon officials can rest easy when it comes to one player.

While Newcastle United are under pressure to sell someone before June 30th, there is one man who is completely off limits.

There have been plenty of fears regarding Bruno Guimaraes and his £100million release clause, but it has now expired. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain passed up the chance to sign the 26-year-old without having to negotiate with Newcastle, and now the Magpies have taken back control.

No one offers Newcastle United £100m for Bruno Guimaraes

While Bruno was busy representing Brazil at the Copa America, there was a sigh of relief around Tyneside. The release clause window came to an end once June 24th became June 25th, as Newcastle United’s wish came true.

£100million is a lot of money, and it proved to be too much for Bruno’s suitors. There has been plenty of talk of interest in him, but that never resulted in a nine-figure bid.

Of course, the transfer window is not closed. Clubs can still try and buy Bruno between now and August 30th. That could happen, with it previously being reported that Arsenal think they might be able to get him for less than £100million later in the summer.

Newcastle now have the power over Bruno after PIF talks

But if clubs like Arsenal think they can get Bruno for less than £100million then they can think again. If anyone was going to sign him this summer, it had to be for that amount, and it had to be while his release clause was active.

That window of opportunity has been and gone, and it is now Newcastle United officials who have wrestled back power. They are suddenly in a position of strength regarding Bruno, having spent the past few weeks nervously hoping that no one comes in with a bid.

If a bid comes Newcastle’s way now, they can reject it. While they were obliged to sell him for £100million during the past few weeks, that is no longer the case. The Magpies can even demand more money for Bruno, such is the position they find themselves in.

Unless Bruno pushes for a move, he is going to be staying at St James’ Park. Keeping him is vital, as he is arguably the most important player that Eddie Howe has. The Toon boss has described Bruno as ‘world class’, and there is certainly no one else at Newcastle United who can do what he is capable of.

That is why this release clause passing is so significant. If the Newcastle project is to continue progressing at the current rate, the club needs to keep players like Bruno.

PIF want Newcastle United to be at the top, but you will not get there if you do not have players like Bruno Guimaraes. According to iNews, the midfielder held talks with Toon chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan at the end of the season, and that led to confidence that he would remain at St James’ Park – providing his release clause was not activated.

Now that confidence will only grow stronger, with Bruno suddenly even more likely to be wearing black and white next season.
