Kevin Harvick had some issues with how NASCAR handled the Cup Series race in New Hampshire once it began raining. On Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, Harvick revealed what NASCAR should have done differently.

“When the rain started, they should have thrown the caution and said ‘Come in, do what you want to do. The pits are open non-competitvie.’ Maybe have a situation where we have the odd pit stalls come in first, we have the even pit stalls come in second, ” Harvick said. Keep half the cars off of pit road. Let them change the tire, and whatever NASCAR decides is the tire that you’re on, from there on the game’s on. It’s racing. If you have to come in under green you have to come in under green.

“…If you have to pit under green or you have to make a competitive pit stop, while the green flag is still out, I don’t think they should be able to jump off the wall until the car is stopped. I think there’s needs to be a few things that we have to put in place to protect these guys.”

Harvick went on to say that they need to “dry pit road first” to protect the crew members during a competitive pit stop. He also said non-competitive pit stops are needed so NASCAR can future out what’s going on in terms of the pit road and track conditions.

Kevin Harvick says the New Hampshire Race was ‘intriguing’

“It was very intriguing,” Harvick said about the race. “It kind of got botched up there at the end with the flow of the race. Everybody’s being conservative, I agree. But we have to progress here and move forward. I know the thing they have said going forward is we have the rain tires to help get the track dry. I think the rain tires are just part of it now.”

The New Hampshire Race had a two-hour rain delay. After the rain moved out, thewet tires were placed on the cars, and Christopher Bell won the USA Today 301. After the race, Bell talked about competing under wet conditions.

“It was literally the tale of two completely different events,” Bell said. “Obviously, the rain completely shook up what was going on track, and in the dry, we started off really well. I was able to get the lead in the first stage, and then Martin really came on there in stage two.

“I think that we had some room to improve on the dry stuff. Like, I’m not sure that I — well, I definitely didn’t have the dominant car. Then whenever the wet came, it was just like — I mean, we might as well have been at somewhere completely different.”
