Best time to shop for groceries as 'least' crowded hour of the week revealed

Grocery shopping is a tedious task, especially when you’re at a super crowded store. But, there’s a specific hour during the week when stores across the US are “least” populated.

The new survey analyzing the shopping habits of Americans reveals where, when, and how much grocery people typically buy in a week, alongside the average expenditure.

Survey reveals when US stores are least crowded during the week

Shopping on the weekend is the usual drill in most households. But the survey found that stores in the US where the majority of the population shops are “least popular” at 8 PM on Tuesday. Now you know the best time to grab groceries while evading the crowd.

The survey byDrive Research interviewed 1000 consumers across the country and found that Saturday, from 10 AM to 1:59 PM is the “most popular time to go grocery shopping.” The same period attracts most shoppers on Sunday (23%), and (25%) on Wednesday and Friday.

The next least popular time to shop for groceries is on Monday at 8 PM or later, including about 10% of the respondents.

As far as the time spent during each trip is concerned- 35% spend less than 30 minutes, 39% of people spend 30 to 44 minutes and 27% of people spend 45+ minutes grocery shopping.

Despite shopping apps and online delivery options, shoppers like to go to physical stores. 61% of the respondents regularly visit mainstream chains such as Safeway, Kroger, etc, while mass merchandisers such as Target and Walmart attract 56%.

Americans love to snack

The survey further reveals the most shopped grocery items and snack foods come third on the list at 76%. While dairy is most shopped at 82%, fresh produce such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and juice makes up 80% of groceries shopped in a week. Below are the next 10 most grocery items bought regularly.

Shoppers spend an average of $174 per grocery trip and go to stores about 6 times a month.
