An idle mind is a wandering one. That’s not the best place to be before receiving life-changing news. Reed Sheppard is staying busy a day before ahead of the NBA Draft. They’re taking the former Wildcat out to the ball game.

Before the Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets began at Citi Field, Sheppard took center stage on the pitcher’s mound. The London native received the bright spotlight and dialed up a strike for the crowd. His mother, Stacey Reed Sheppard, was behind the plate to catch the first pitch.

An alternate angle confirms Sheppard did in fact throw a strike from the rubber. What can’t this guy do?

Sheppard did not show any allegiance with his NYC jersey, but he did something to help the Mets. They dialed up two quick home runs in the second inning and took an early 6-0 lead.

It was not a completely clean night for the Kentucky kid. He posed for a picture with former Louiisville Cardinal Donovan Mitchell and there are no Ls Down anywhere to be found. Come on, Reed!

Sheppard at No. 3 in Final ESPN NBA Mock Draft

The Atlanta Hawks are down to their final 24 hours on the clock and it’s still unclear which way they are leaning. Jonathan Givony provided some last-minute intel for the Worldwide Leader.

The Frenchman, Zacharrie Risacher, is projected to be taken with the top pick by Atlanta. Givony believes Sheppard will not have to wait long, currently slotted to go No. 3 overall to Houston, but a trade for that pick is on the table.

“This pick has been in trade conversations since the moment the Rockets got it in the draft lottery (14 teams), and it likely will continue to be attainable until NBA commissioner Adam Silver announces the selection at No. 3,” writes Givony. “Many NBA teams are operating under the assumption it will be moved in their internal mock drafts, but that’s difficult to plan for considering how rare these types of trades are from a historical perspective.”

Rob Dillingham is not getting as much positive publicity ahead of the NBA Draft. He’s been sliding ever so slightly in the final days before players convene at the Barclays Center. ESPN currently projects Dilly to shift into slot No. 10 with the Utah Jazz.

Two more former Kentucky Wildcats are expected to hear their names called, but they may have to wait until Thursday, when for the first time, the second round will be broadcast a day later from ESPN’s New York City studios. ESPN has Justin Edwards falling to his hometown Philadelphia 76ers at No. 41 overall and Antonio Reeves to the Spurs at No. 48.

The first round of the NBA Draft begins Wednesday night at 8 pm EST on ABC and ESPN.
