'You are not normal': Teammates hail Tottenham man as world's best in his position after international display

Tottenham Hotspur fans will need no reminding of the fact that they have one of the best defenders in the Premier League in their ranks in Cristian Romero.

When Cristian Romero is on form and keeping his discipline, he is a game-changer for Spurs – and there were extremely promising signs last season concerning the partnership he is developing with Micky van de Ven.

But despite his quality, nothing seems to bring the best out of Romero quite like when he pulls on that Argentina shirt, having already won the Copa America and World Cup during his career.

And the 26-year-old was, once again, at his dominating best on Tuesday as Argentina beat Chile to book their spot in the knockout stages of the current Copa America.

Cristian Romero lauded on Instagram after Argentina win

Remarkably, Whoscored shows that Romero won nine tackles during the 1-0 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he won more than double the number of challenges of any other player on the pitch.

Romero also led the way for aerial duels, while also making three clearances and two interceptions.

So it is hardly surprising that a number of his teammates were full of praise for the former Atalanta man on Instagram, with Alexis MacAllister insisting that the Spurs man is not normal…

Tottenham centre-back attracting interest this summer

It should be no surprise at all that Romero has been linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer.

Real Madrid reportedly want Romero, who has had a turbulent spell in North London so far.

Ange Postecoglou remains determined to keep Romero, and Spurs are in a strong position to hold out for a huge fee right now. So there is reason for Tottenham fans to be optimistic that the defender will be in their starting lineup on the opening day of next season.

But clearly, the links show how important it is that Tottenham make another step forward next year after a promising first year under Postecoglou.
