Report: Leeds receive good news in bid to sign 'unbelievable' £8m defender

Leeds United are among the clubs tracking a Liverpool player this summer and The Reds have now set a price tag for in-demand ace, which could hand Leeds an unexpected boost.

The Yorkshire side are likely to be in the market for a new right-sided centre-back after Joe Rodon went back to Tottenham at the end of his loan. Leeds are still keen to keep the Wales star at Elland Road.

But, if Leeds are unable to get a deal done for Rodon with plenty of Premier League sides said to be keen on the Spurs defender, then the Whites will need to find themselves a replacement in the coming weeks.

One player they could turn to has just returned to his parent club in Liverpool after a loan in England’s second tier, much like Rodon. Liverpool have set their asking price and it comes as a boost to Leeds.

Liverpool slap £8m price tag on Leeds target Nat Phillips’ head

Phillips, 27, endured an indifferent 2023-24 season. He went on loan to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic during the first half of the season but only managed eight games and returned to Anfield before going to Wales.

Cardiff came calling and he clocked up 16 games for the Bluebirds. Now he has a decision to make with Cardiff keen on keeping him, but Liverpool’s latest move rules the Championship side out of a deal.

That is according to Wales Online, who say Liverpool’s asking price of £8m almost instantly rules out Cardiff in their hope of turning Phillips’ loan into a permanent deal come the start of the 2024-25 season.

Leeds are interested in signing the “unbelievable” defender

Described as “unbelievable” by Jamie Redknapp, Phillips has been on Daniel Farke’s radar ever since 2019. Indeed, Farke was keen on luring him to Norwich while Carrow Road boss after Phillips’ loan at Stuttgart.

Ipswich and Leeds both want the £8m-rated defender alongside Cardiff but with the latter unable to sign the defender at that price, it leaves Leeds in a straight shoot-out with Kieran McKenna’s promoted side.

Leeds will be able to offer Phillips first-team football on a regular basis especially if Rodon does not sign on again at Elland Road. Typically, Ipswich are also interested in signing Rodon from Tottenham Hotspur.
