‘The reality is’: Alan Burrows’ message to Duk after the player was asked if he would like to join Celtic

The transfer silly season is likely to ramp up a little bit for the Celtic fans now that the Euros are entering the final stages of the competition now that the group stages are coming to a close.

The final group fixtures will take place tonight and with more teams getting eliminated that means transfer business is likely to ramp up as players head home from Germany.

But one player who has been quite vocal on his future is Aberdeen striker, Duk. We discussed last week how the Cape Verde international striker was asked if he would like to join Celtic.

After saying he wants to leave Aberdeen to join one of the top leagues in Europe, The Dons’ CEO Alan Burrows has come out to deliver a message to his player.

Burrows delivers some ‘advice’ to Aberdeen striker

Duk had a good first season at Pittodrie where his 18 goals in 43 games helped Aberdeen to a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

But as the team struggled last season, so did Duk’s goals and Alan Burrows tells the 24-year-old that if he does want a move, then he needs to start producing on the park.

Burrows said [Sky Sports Scotland], “The reality is Duk’s an Aberdeen player. We expect him to be an Aberdeen player until somebody makes us an offer that changes that status.

“And if it doesn’t, then he will be an Aberdeen player to the end of his contract.

“There have been no formal offers. There have been offers in the past and in past windows and they have not met our valuation.

“Whether it’s Duk or anyone else my advice to any football player is if you actually want to move then the best place to earn your move is on the pitch and going after it hammer and tongs and showing everybody what you’re capable of and what you’re doing.”

In 186 career appearances, Duk has scored 54 goals and created 19 assists. The problem with that is that just 25 of those have been in a top-flight league.

Before his Aberdeen move, Duk was languishing in the Portuguese second tier with Benfica after progressing through the youth ranks.

With only two seasons of senior football under his belt, Duk, at 24, still has a lot to prove and as for being good enough to be a striker for Celtic, I don’t think that’s a serious option that would be open to the Aberdeen man due to his lack of consistency and experience of being a big-game player.
