Ipswich are starting to become quite active in the market – and already have eyes on a second signing after Ben Johnson underwent a medical.
The West Ham No.2’s contract expires next week, and Ipswich have moved to sign him on a free transfer – the Guardian believe he has already passed his medical.
Now, Kieran McKenna‘s side are looking to sign another defender – one who Tottenham actually let go back in 2022…
Ipswich want Cameron Carter-Vickers
A story from talkSPORT now claims that Ipswich are keen to sign Celtic No.20 Cameron Carter-Vickers.
It is said that Ipswich plan to back McKenna in the market as he targets a swoop for the United States international – who has become a vital player for Celtic ever since joining the Scottish giants in a £6m move from Spurs back in June 2022.
Carter-Vickers has made 115 appearances for the Hoops, winning three Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and also the Scottish League Cup on two occasions as well.
TalkSPORT do not really expand on Ipswich’s interest in the man from Southend-on-Sea, although it is also said that McKenna has decided he wants to sign Carl Rushworth from Brighton to be No.1 at Portman Road in the Premier League.
Carter-Vickers made 31 appearances in the centre of defence for Celtic last season, scoring one goal while also providing one assist.
Tottenham could earn windfall from deal
A brief scan of the internet fails to provide any reports showing that Tottenham negotiated a sell-on clause when offloading Carter-Vickers to Celtic back in 2022.
However, these details often go undisclosed – especially for lower profile transfers like a £6m move – so it is possible that Spurs could receive a percentage of whatever sum Ipswich potentially hand Celtic for the defender this summer.
Regardless of whether there is a sell-on clause or not, it should still fill Tottenham with pride to see one of their academy graduates being considered as the man to help tighten up Ipswich’s backline, and give the Tractor Boys the best possible chance of staying in the Premier League.
