Liverpool are now at risk of losing a top talent as he finds himself being lined up to replace one of EURO 2024’s best performers.
However – even before interest in his services arose – a revealing interview was released, in which he made it explicitly clear he would like to leave Anfield immediately.

Bologna want Sepp van den Berg to replace Riccardo Calafiori
A story from the Daily Mail now claims that Bologna want to sign Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool to replace Riccardo Calafiori – who has been one of the standout players at EURO 2024 this summer.
Liverpool signed the Dutchman in a £1.3m deal from PEC Zwolle back in June 2019 – but have only handed him four senior appearances in total since his arrival.
The situation appears to have left Van den Berg quite angry.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, the 22-year-old recently said: “I understood that I wasn’t going to play Van Dijk, Matip or Konate out (of the starting XI) but I thought I could be right behind it. When I didn’t get a chance again, I said, I want to leave (permanently).
Van den Berg also commented on Liverpool deciding to put a £20m price tag on his head, saying: “You didn’t show confidence in me all this time, but you do want to hinder my future. I want to keep playing every week and develop myself further.”
Clearly, the Netherlands U21 international sounds pretty fed up – and would seemingly jump at the chance to join Bologna, especially as they have qualified for the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool could use Dutchman to sign the Italy international themselves
Interestingly, Liverpool are actually believed to be keen on signing Calafiori.
A story from The Athletic recently claimed that the Reds have made contact with Bologna to ask about the Italian’s availability this summer, as Michael Edwards looks to replace Joel Matip.
Therefore, Liverpool could include Van den Berg as part of a player-plus-cash bid to sign Calafiori, given the Serie A side’s admiration for the Dutchman.
