West Ham tease another new signing before quickly unveiling him

West Ham teased another new signing with a post on the club’s official social media account this Wednesday afternoon then quickly unveiled him.

Hammers News reported last night that West Ham were in discussions over four deals which could be concluded soon.

West Ham are on the hunt for another seven signings after the capture of Luis Guilherme.

The Hammers continue to be linked with a number of transfer deals, both arrivals and departures.

Flynn Downes and Ben Johnson look to be heading out to Southampton and Ipswich imminently.

But technical director Tim Steidten and new Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui are focusing on those coming in.

Hammers showing rare transfer efficiency

The positions West Ham are looking to bolster with new signings include back-up goalkeeper, two central defenders, a full-back, a left-sided attacker, a central midfielder and striker.

Now the Hammers have a boss who was himself a top level goalkeeper as a player.

Lopetegui came through the ranks at Real Madrid and made one appearance for the first team. He also played for bitter rivals Barcelona five times and got one cap for Spain.

The bulk of his playing career was spent at Logrones and Ray Vallecano.

As a result of the fact he used to be a goalkeeper himself, West Ham’s new head coach reportedly plays a more involved role in the coaching of that department than your average manager.

So West Ham fans should not be too surprised that the club has been looking to sort what has become a quite complex goalkeeper situation out early on in the window.

There has been little by way of experience in depth at West Ham in terms of goalkeepers since Darren Randolph and Dave Martin left the club.

So when the Hammers released Joseph Anang and Jacob Knightbridge while also selling Nathan Trott, it was clear someone had to come in.

West Ham have been linked with a host of veteran goalkeepers including Wes Foderingham, Asmir Begovic and Tim Krul.

In our update last night, Hammers News reported that Foderingham had completed his medical and was set to be announced with the next 24-48 hours.

Now West Ham have teased another new signing with a post on the club’s official social media account before quickly unveiling him.

Following the £25m capture of Brazilian attacker Guilherme, the Hammers made it clear they were about to unveil free transfer Foderingham.

West Ham took to social media on Wednesday afternoon with a not-so-cryptic message.

“Happy Wesday, Hammers,” the club posted on social media alongside a smiley face emoji.

Showing rare transfer efficiency, the Hammers swiftly followed that up with Foderingham’s official unveiling as West Ham’s second signing of the summer window.

He joins West Ham on a two-year deal, it has been confirmed.

‘I’m joining at a very good time’

“It feels brilliant to be a Hammer!” the Hammersmith-born ‘stopper’ keeper said.

“As soon as I heard of the interest, it was something that I was keen to get sorted and get done and I’m just delighted to be here…

“Especially in the last few years, the club has had some really good success in Europe and in the Premier League as well. I think the club has gone from strength to strength and I think I’m joining at a very, very good time as it’s a positive time for the club.”

Foderingham was famously managed by West Ham legend Paolo Di Canio.

It was his first step into the Football League saw him join League Two title-chasers Swindon Town in October 2011, while Di Canio was in charge at the County Ground.

Foderingham, who has left Sheffield United as a free agent this summer, helped the Robins clinch top spot, keeping a total of 24 clean sheets across all competitions and winning the division’s Golden Glove award.

Foderingham was named in the following season’s League One PFA Team of the Year, after featuring in 54 games in all competitions, and by the time of his departure from Swindon at the end of 2014/15 he had tallied 71 shutouts in 191 appearances for the club.
