Report: Premier League club launch first move to sign 'unplayable' attacker from Newcastle United

Newcastle United face an uphill battle to retain their prized assets as teams across the continent look to ransack them in the summer transfer window.

The likes of Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes have already been linked with big-money moves after enhancing their reputations with a string of eye-catching displays in the 2023-24 campaign.

The Magpies, however, can rest easy knowing that Guimaraes’ £100m release clause has expired, with interested clubs now tasked with negotiating a fee with Eddie Howe‘s side.

Another player who is reportedly a wanted man this summer is Alexander Isak, who emerged as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe last season with an impressive tally of 25 goals across all competitions for Newcastle.

Chelsea linked with Premier League record move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak

Chelsea have been active in the transfer market this summer, snapping up Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham.

Now, the Blues appear to have set the wheels in motion to sign Isak, having made a formal enquiry to complete his signing from Newcastle.

A report from the Daily Mail confirms that Chelsea are interested in signing the Sweden international and are well aware of the fact that they will need to stump up in excess of the Premier League record fee of £115m they paid to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion last season.

Newcastle will drive a hard bargain to part with one of their biggest assets but the Magpies could be forced to sell Isak if they receive an irresistible offer to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The 24-year-old, who former Tottenham Hotspur winger Jamie Redknapp previously referred to as ‘unplayable’, is tied down at St. James’ Park until the summer of 2028 and there have even been talks of him putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

Chelsea remain in the market for attacking reinforcements and areclose to signing Barcelona youngster Marc Guiu for €6m according to Fabrizio Romano. Lille’s Jonathan David, is also on the Blues’ radar, while Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran is another striker who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

As for Newcastle, Lloyd Kelly’s arrival on a free transfer from Bournemouth has bolstered their defence, but they have thus far been unable to add to their squad in other areas of the pitch.
