Report: Club now going all out to make 'phenomenal' Liverpool player their statement signing this summer

Liverpool are braced to fend off some advances for their key players over the summer transfer window.

There is some uncertainty over one or two in the Liverpool squad as the club begins a period of upheaval.

When a new manager takes over, it is never initially clear what his intentions will be. In Liverpool’s case, after so long with Jurgen Klopp, Arne Slot could be looking for something entirely different.

As a result, it could be a prime period for club’s to capitalise on the slight doubt around Anfield and make a play for some of Slot’s squad.

Just like last year, the Saudi Pro League sides are looking to make a splash in Europe this summer. As Liverpool come to terms with their own changing circumstances, it seems an assault may be coming.

Al Nassr ready to go all out for Alisson Becker

The main uncertainty at Liverpool is currently in regards to those players who’s contracts only have one year left to run.

Mohamed Salah is obviously one of those and it remains to be seen whether an approach comes from the Middle East this year.

Last time, Al Hilal waited until transfer deadline day before making a massive offer to Liverpool for Salah. Although Mo looks likely to stay for now, there’s a long time left to go.

Virgil van Dijk is another who has been in the Saudis crosshairs. The Liverpool captain reportedly took a meeting with Al Nassr ahead of Euro 2024.

And it’s Al Nassr, the club of Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo who would appear to pose the most threat to Liverpool right now.

According to TeamTALK though, it isn’t Salah or Van Dijk who the Riyadh based side want the most. Instead, they’re reportedly planning to go ‘all out’ in order to sign Alisson Becker.

Alisson is said to be Al Nassr’s number one transfer target this summer. They are even claimed to be readying a ‘monster contract’ for the Brazilian, which will reportedly be issued soon.

Liverpool’s No.1 is supposedly keen to stay in Europe for now, but it’s claimed that Al Nassr will keep ‘pushing hard’ until they receive a firm ‘no’ from Alisson. They are said to be desperate to make the 31-year-old a ‘statement signing’.

Liverpool have to resist Alisson offers

Had Klopp still been at Liverpool, then it would have been hard to think of anything other than Alisson staying at the club this summer.

The goalkeeper was a real favourite of the manager and vice-versa, and for good reason. As Micah Richards mentioned in January, Alisson has been ‘phenomenal’ for Liverpool for ages.

With Klopp in the dugout, there really would be no grounds for the Brazil international to leave at all.

However, the manager’s exit has just led to the feeling that the slate could be wiped completely clean. As a result, speculation over the futures of the likes of Alisson and Van Dijk feels more of a worry than ever.

In terms of the goalkeeper, Liverpool do have a little more protection. He still has three years left on his contract. It would take something incredibly special from Al Nassr to get the Reds to even consider it.

Then again, if Alisson himself has been swayed by such a big offer, things will become more difficult to resist. But no matter how hard it becomes, Liverpool cannot budge. Alisson has to stay. Sorry, Sadio.
