'Love this': Jermain Defoe buzzing over news out of West Ham earlier today

West Ham United have been busy on the transfer front over the past few weeks as they look to bolster their ranks.

The Hammers got their first signing of the summer on board earlier this month, landing Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras.

And on Wednesday, West Ham announced their second signing, as goalkeeper Wes Foderingham arrived at the London Stadium on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old will officially join the Hammers when his Sheffield United contract expires on 1 July.

In wake of the signing, both West Ham and Foderingham took to their socials, and a number of the veteran stopper’s peers wished him well.

Who is West Ham newcomer Wes Foderingham?

Wes Foderingham is a 33-year-old goalkeeper with over 400 professional appearances to his name.

The London-born stopper came through the ranks at Fulham before linking up with Crystal Palace’s academy in 2010.

After taking in loan spells at Bromley and Histon, he joined Swindon in 2011, where he made a name for himself and made 191 appearances for the Robins.

Foderingham was then snapped up by Scottish side Rangers in 2015, and he went on to spend five years at Ibrox, with 143 appearances under his belt.

He then joined Sheffield United in 2020 and he once again clocked up over 100 appearances, of which 30 came in the Premier League last term.

What has Foderingham said about West Ham move?

“It feels brilliant to be a Hammer!” Foderingham told the West Ham website. “As soon as I heard of the interest, it was something that I was keen to get sorted and get done and I’m just delighted to be here.

“I’ve been fortunate to play for teams with a real strong fanbase, a fanbase that’s passionate about their club, and West Ham are no different.

“They’re a fanbase that care deeply about their football club, it’s a family club as well, and I find it’s always better to play for a team where you have those supporters cheering you on week in, week out.

“Especially in the last few years, the club has had some really good success in Europe and in the Premier League as well.

“I think the club has gone from strength to strength and I think I’m joining at a very, very good time as it’s a positive time for the club.”

West Ham are likely to make more signings in the coming weeks, with speculation linking the Hammers to the likes of Max Kilman, Ismael Kone and Romelu Lukaku.
