Purdue’s Zach Edey gets his call to the NBA: Memphis

Purdue's Zach Edey (Chad Krockover)

Zach Edey achieved his goal Wednesday night of being a first-round NBA Draft pick.

The two-time Player-of-the-Year from Purdue was picked ninth by the Memphis Grizzlies, making him Purdue’s second top-10 pick in three years.

In Memphis, Edey will join a core ready to win now after an injury-ravaged season. Edey will join star Ja Morant, emergent big man Jaren Jackson Jr. and three-point marksman Desmond Bane with the Grizzlies.

Edey watched the draft at Matt Painter’s home in West Lafayette along with coaches and teammates. Mason Gillis, now at Duke, returned to Purdue to attend the gathering, as did Lance Jones on his own big night.
