Tottenham Hotspur fail with two swap offers as cheeky bids immediately rejected

Tottenham Hotspur are chasing new signings this summer and are trying to get a little creative in an attempt to strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

The summer transfer window hasn’t really got going just yet; July is just around the corner though and deals will start to materialise soon enough.

Tottenham Hotspur do already have two deals done; Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner are signed, sealed and delivered.

Werner is returning for another loan spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium whilst Bergvall agreed to join back in February.

Ange Postecoglou will be pleased with those two deals but the Tottenham boss will be keen to get more new signings in through the door.

Tottenham won’t have Champions League money to spend though and Spurs appear to have have attempted some cheeky deals…

Alexander Isak swap deal rejected

Tottenham should be in the market for a centre forward this summer.

Harry Kane still hasn’t really been replaced but top-level strikers aren’t exactly easy to find.

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak certainly has that kind of potential, at least if he can avoid injury problems.

The Swede terrorised Premier League defenders – even Micky van de Ven – last season and reports suggest that Newcastle would want around £200million for his signature.

Unsurprisingly, that isn’t money that Tottenham are ready to spend and Spurs allegedly tried to bring the price down with a part-exchange deal.

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Tottenham offered cash plus Richarlison in a deal for Isak – but Newcastle turned that proposal down.

This was never likely to pay off in reality; Newcastle won’t want to lose Isak, probably wouldn’t be all that desperate to take Richarlison and almost certainly won’t have received enough cash as part of the deal to make it worthwhile.

We have to credit Tottenham for attempting such a cheeky move, but it was always a long shot.

Tottenham’s Jacob Ramsey exchange fails

The Isak isn’t the only swap deal Tottenham have allegedly tried to pull off.

The Express and Star claim that Spurs offered £20million plus Giovani Lo Celso for Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey.

Villa rejected that proposal and it’s unclear whether Tottenham will make another attempt.

Villa don’t want to lose Ramsey this summer but we can actually understand why Tottenham would have made this offer.

Boss Unai Emery coached Lo Celso at Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal, showing a real admiration of the Argentinian in his career.

A reunion would have surely appealed to Lo Celso and Tottenham were seemingly trying to use Emery’s admiration to strike a deal.

That seemingly won’t be happening though with Villa matching Newcastle by sending Tottenham’s swap proposal packing in swift fashion.
