Aston Villa have several players performing at this summer’s major tournaments, from the European Championships in Germany to Copa America.
But like many supporters, they probably can’t wait for the new Premier League season to kick off given what is in store.
Unai Emery delivered Champions League football for Aston Villa and it’s something fans have been craving for decades.
Whilst the likes of Ollie Watkins rightfully got praised for being his side’s best player, Leon Bailey produced the best season of his career, Emiliano Martinez did what he does best and Ezri Konsa was finally getting plaudits for his performances.
One man who was an unsung hero for Villa was Youri Tielemans after he joined the club last summer on a free from then-relegated Leicester City.
Whilst he was brilliant during the recently concluded campaign, things aren’t going to plan at Euro 2024 with Belgium because he has come under fire.
Belgium have reached the knockout stages, but only after several tepid and below-average performances, including a 0-0 draw in their final group game against Ukraine, which saw their fans boo their own team.

Those were the words used by Voetbalnieuws when describing Tielemans’ performance.
It needs to be noted that he didn’t start Belgium’s first game of Euro 2024 when Slovakia beat them, but then, he returned to the XI for the win over Romania.
Tielemans opened the scoring inside two minutes and was lauded for his performance.
But that praise has quickly turned sour because the Belgium fans aren’t happy with what they are seeing, not just from the Villa man, but the rest of the team.
Belgium were given a 3/10 rating for their performance and it was stated ‘In midfield, Youri Tielemans played an anonymous match after his star role against Romania’.

It’s one of the tougher ties you can get and you are expecting Belgium to be packing their bags and going home early.
France were one of the pre-tournament favourites, and yes they have been as poor during the group stages, but it’s only a matter of time before they really get going.

The same can’t be said for the Belgians because they are an ageing team. The so-called golden generation is coming to an end and it doesn’t seem to be rosy from within.
Either way, this is still a chance for Tielemans to prove his worth and show why he will be playing Champions League football next season because he will be up against an elite French midfield.
N’Golo Kante, who is now playing in Saudi Arabia, has been one of the best players at this summer’s tournament and is also one of the best midfielders to have played in the modern era.
