'Outstanding': Ange Postecoglou left blown away by £30m Chelsea target after Euro 2024 display

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has just delivered a glowing verdict on a player who’s reportedly on Chelsea’s transfer radar.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, who’s doing some punditry work this summer covering Euro 2024, has praised a Chelsea target.

Now that the summer transfer window is in full flow, the Blues are linked with so many different profiles. In particular, there’s several potential targets participating in the Euros tournament.

Ange Postecoglou hails Chelsea target

Postecoglou was full of praise for Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, 23, after his Euro 2024 performance on Wednesday night.

Georgia beat Portugal 2-0 yesterday at the Euros to secure qualification from their group and into the last-16 stage. For Mamardashvili, he kept a valuable clean sheet for his country as he continues to impress at this summer tournament. The Valencia keeper is really starting to make a name for himself.

Postecoglou told ITV’s coverage of Georgia vs Portugal (26 June): “They have an outstanding goalkeeper in Mamardashvili. He is one that everyone is tracking. He has had a strong season at Valencia and when you have a strong goalkeeper, who is in form, it keeps you in games.”

FotMob data provided the statistics from Mamardashvili’s excellent individual display in Georgia’s win against Portugal.

Giorgi Mamardashvili linked to Stamford Bridge

While Mamardashvili continues to put in great performances for his country, it makes you think about where he’ll be playing his club football next year. He’s still under contract with Spanish club Valencia until 2027, but there’s speculation about his future and a potential exit.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reported via X last month that Chelsea appreciate Valencia’s Mamardashvili as a potential target for the goalkeeper position.

Meanwhile, iNews claimed that Newcastle United admire £30m-rated Mamardashvili, who’s got the desire to play in the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Clubs should always be hesitant signing players based solely off fantastic displays at international tournaments. However, Mamardashvili’s reputation precedes Euro 2024. The colossus shot-stopper kept 13 clean sheets last season for Valencia in La Liga.
