Report: West Ham have just revived interest in 2022 target, he is now up for sale this time

West Ham have now decided to target a player David Moyes wanted to sign in the summer of 2022.

The Hammers are seemingly flicking back through their old transfer archives, amid fresh interest in another player who was targeted back in 2021 – Adam Hlozek.

Now, West Ham are plotting another move to sign a player they unsuccessfully enquired about back in 2022…

West Ham revive Aaron Wan-Bissaka interest

A story from The Times now claims that West Ham are reviving their interest in Manchester United No.29 Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

It comes after The Athletic revealed back in September 2022 that the Irons made contact to ask about the Londoner, although Erik ten Hag decided to give him a chance.

Now – however – The Times believe the £50m man is surplus to requirements under the Dutchman at Old Trafford, and is definitely up for sale as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

Manchester United actually activated an option to extend Wan-Bissaka’s deal by a further 12 months just to make sure they recouped some cash, rather than lose the 26-year-old on a free transfer in 2025.

The Crystal Palace academy graduate only made 22 Premier League appearances last season as he shared right-back duties with Diogo Dalot, who seems to have won the trust of Ten Hag ahead of the Englishman.

Everton are also believed to be keen on signing Wan-Bissaka this summer.

Ideal Ben Johnson replacement

If West Ham manage to lure Wan-Bissaka to the London Stadium this summer, we believe he would be the ideal replacement for Ben Johnson.

The Times add that the West Ham No.2 is about to sign for Ipswich after rejecting a new contract in east London, and has already undergone a medical ahead of penning a four-year contract worth £60,000-a-week.

Both Johnson and Wan-Bissaka can operate at right-back as well as centre-back, so stylistically, this would effectively be a like-for-like swap.

The Times do not mention how much Manchester United want for the versatile defender, although we would presume he is available for a cut-price fee given his contract situation.
