Jermaine Jenas picks who he thinks was better - Man City’s Phil Foden or Michael Owen

England have had many top players represent them over the past few decades.

With the 2024 European Championship underway, Manchester City have three players from their squad currently representing the Three Lions.

One of those players is Phil Foden, who was selected to be part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for this tournament after being named the Premier League Player of the Season.

Jermaine Jenas picks between Phil Foden and Michael Owen

Appearing in a recent video shared on the Daily Mail Sport TikTok page, Jermaine Jenas was asked to pick who he thinks is better between players in the current England side and former Three Lions legends.

When asked to pick between Foden and Michael Owen, Jenas picked the City star.

Foden vs Owen

In his playing career, Owen scored 222 goals in 482 senior games playing for clubs such as Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle United among others.

On the international stage, the former striker, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2001, racked up 89 senior England caps, finding the back of the net 40 times along the way.

In comparison, at the age of 24, Foden has scored 87 goals, provided 53 assists and won numerous trophies in 270 senior games for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions.

For England, the midfielder, who Gary Lineker recently described as being one of the best number 10s in the world right now, has 37 senior appearances under his belt with four goals scored across those games.

Given how many goals he scored during his career in addition to winning the Ballon d’Or, it may surprise some older football fans that Jenas, who played in eight games with Owen for England during his career, picked Foden over the former striker.

However, we think that most City fans would agree with Jenas on this particular topic.
