'He's got better and better': Harry Kane raves about 'really clever' Manchester City player

Harry Kane has come up against a wide range of top-level defenders in his career.

In 480 combined appearances for Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur, the striker has scored 324 goals in total.

Five of those goals have come against Manchester City, with Kane facing off against Pep Guardiola’s side on 16 occasions.

Then on the international stage, the England captain has found the back of the net 64 times in 94 senior games for the Three Lions.

With the centre-forward alongside three City players in the camp for the 2024 European Championship, he has now heaped praise on one of the trio for what he does on the pitch and how he’s improved his game over time.

Harry Kane says John Stones is the toughest defender to face in England training

When asked in a recent video shared on the England TikTok channel to name the toughest defender to play against in training, Harry Kane had this to say on the matter and John Stones, in particular.

He said: “I’ll probably say Stonesy to be honest. I think Stones is really clever.

“Of course, everyone knows how good he is on the ball under pressure and playing but maybe some people underestimate how good he is in reading the game, blocking shots, getting his body on the line, when to be aggressive, when to keep space.

“I think Stones is and I think he’s growing in that as he’s got more experience as well, he’s got better and better. Obviously, I’ve known Stonesy a long time as well but yeah I’d say he’s the toughest one I play with.”

Stones is a key figure for City and England

Kane isn’t the first member of the England squad to praise Stones’ status as a defender, as Jordan Pickford described the 30-year-old as one of the best centre-backs in the world earlier this month.

Now that the England captain has praised Stones and highlighted how tough it is to play against him in training, this should strengthen the City star’s status as one of the best defenders around right now.
