'Been a pleasure': Windass, Bannan & more reply as Cameron Dawson posts Sheffield Wednesday farewell message

Cameron Dawson has left Sheffield Wednesday and joined Rotherham United on a free transfer.

Cameron Dawson, 28, leaves hometown team Sheffield Wednesday as a free agent, following 129 appearances and 47 clean sheets for the Owls.

The former England U18 and England U19 man made his first-team debut for the Owls during the 2016/17 season, making 18 Championship outings last time round.

Dawson kept four clean sheets during the first half of the campaign before losing his place in the starting XI to James Beadle.

The club offered Dawson terms to stay beyond his contract expiry this summer. But Dawson has now signed a two-year deal with South Yorkshire neighbours Rotherham United.

The Millers under Steve Evans have made a proactive start to the summer transfer window having now signed 10 new players, including another released Sheffield Wednesday man in Reece James.

Cameron Dawson posts Sheffield Wednesday farewell

Dawson took to Instagram to say his farewell to Sheffield Wednesday on Monday, posting a lengthy message to supporters.

Several of his Sheffield Wednesday teammates also took to Instagram to say their goodbyes to Dawson, after several years of service in S6.

Josh Windass posted: “Been a pleasure son! From on trial with bully days to now! Good luck bud!” and Barry Bannan posted: “All the best Cam dog. Been some great years together mate.”

Another long-standing Sheffield Wednesday player in Liam Palmer posted: “All the best brother! It’s been a pleasure.”

Bailey Cadamarteri also said his goodbye, posting: “Good luck Cam.”

Who will be the next player to leave Sheffield Wednesday

Danny Rohl is certainly wasting no time in trimming his first-team squad at Sheffield Wednesday, and adding to it as well, with three new signings already through the door.

Dawson joins names like Will Vaulks, Lee Gregory, and James in leaving and signing for new clubs, with many more expected to leave Hillsborough this summer.

Contracts officially expire at the end of June and so we could see some more reports on names like Windass, who remains out of contract at the end of this month.

The striker seems to be facing an uncertain future in S6 with more reports of him leaving than of him staying, and so he could be the next player to leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

His loss would be a huge blow for Rohl who seems determined to sign a couple of strikers this summer, with the club looking set to spend on a new no.9.
