There has been plenty of noise surrounding that decision from Gareth Southgate, who has been warned by Gary Neville not to mishandle talents such as Alexander-Arnold.

The man in the dugout is certain to continue coming under more fire for his various decisions at Euro 2024, but it remains to be seen what he has planned for the Liverpool man next.

As per the official England X account, Alexander-Arnold and Jude Bellingham were asked what other sport they would like to have as a job if it wasn’t football.

The Real Madrid star said a quarter-back in NFL, with the Liverpool ace responding: “I want to say the same, but I’ll go something different. I’ll go tennis player.

“I’m used to playing a team sport, so although there’s a team behind the player, it’s on you, I like the idea of it.

“It’s the same with boxing, it all comes down to you, if you perform on the court then it’s down to you.

“If you don’t and you’re out, that’s on you. I like that pressure and I’d like to feel what that would be like, so I think about that a lot.”

What does the future hold for the Liverpool star?

Liverpool fans everywhere adore their right-back, and will be keen for the academy graduate to continue at Anfield for as long as possible.

Those fans do not look like being let down anytime soon, with more focus now on what role Alexander-Arnold will play for the Reds.

New manager Arne Slot will definitely be watching on with intent this summer, with Alexander-Arnold one of many Anfield men in action for their countries.

He often adopted an inverted full-back role under Jurgen Klopp, much like Pep Guardiola has done with many of his Manchester City stars, with Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta having also adopted that approach.

That situation could be repeated under Slot, while there is also the very real possibility that the player could become a more traditional midfielder following his Euro 2024 venture.

Such a role for Alexander-Arnold is something that Gary Lineker wants to see happen at Liverpool next season.
