Report: West Ham have changed their mind over potential signing of 'outstanding' player this summer

West Ham United have made a solid start to this summer’s transfer window as Julen Lopetegui looks to bolster his side having just been appointed.

David Moyes‘ time at the London Stadium is now complete and a new chapter is being opened with the former Wolves manager now at the helm.

The 2023/24 campaign saw a lot of turbulence at West Ham which has ended in the owners appointing Julen Lopetegui to get them on the right track.

So far, the Irons have made two additions to their squad with Luis Guilherme and Wes Fodderingham along with the potential for more over the coming weeks.

But there is one player who Lopetegui’s side may now have changed their mind about following recent transfer talks.

West Ham perform transfer U-turn after recent talks

Whenever a new manager arrives at a club, there will be the expectation for him to bring in a number of new player to make this side his own.

And there are clear examples of managers arriving at new clubs and looking to raid their former sides of their best players.

This has been suggested at West Ham this summer with the Hammers having been linked with a potential swoop for Wolves centre-back Max Kilman.

However, there may now have been a considerable twist in the race to sign the 27-year-old defender.

According to The Guardian, West Ham are now changing their mind about potentially signing Kilman from Wolves this summer.

Talks have been held between the two clubs over a possible deal to land the Englishman but Wolves are said to be looking for a fee around £45m.

On the other side of this, West Ham did make an opening bid of £30m for the defender just last week.

The Irons are believed to be capping their limit at £35m for Kilman and are willing to look at other options.

Julen Lopetegui ready to walk away from Max Kilman reunion

During their time at Molineux together, Kilman made 24 appearances under Lopetegui where he also wore the captain’s armband.

The 27-year-old has now spent the last six years at Wolves where he still has four years remianing on his current deal.

Having made 151 appearances for Wolves, Kilman has received some big praise along the way with his former teammate Conor Coady waxing lyrical about him.

“I thought he was outstanding, but I would expect nothing else from him,” Coady told the Wolves website back in 2020.

“He’s brilliant to have around and is a brilliant professional – he listens to the manager, he learns off the lads who’ve been playing there the last couple of years and I think you could see that today.”
