'I know': Anthony Gordon has now explained what he can really do for England at Euro 2024

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon may soon be let off the leash for England at Euro 2024.

At this stage, it remains unclear as to whether or not Gordon will start for the Three Lions on Sunday but the Newcastle forward would appear to have a chance.

Indeed, Phil Foden was absent for training this week having returned home for the birth of his third child and Gordon did finally get on the pitch during the drab draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.

There has been a clamour for Gordon, who is seemingly free of any injury despite falling off his bike in England training.

Harry Kane was certainly impressed with the 23-year-old during his cameo earlier this week and Gordon has been speaking ahead of his first knockout game at a major international tournament.

Gordon talked up his ability to cause defenders nightmares, such is the direct manner of his game.

With England underwhelming in Germany thus far, he clearly believes he has the tools to spark Gareth Southgate’s side into life.

“I’m obviously quick. I know I am a nightmare for anyone that I play against,” he said (via the Evening Standard).

“I’m positive. Every time I get the ball, I always to make something happen. I’m not a very safe player, I am always going for it. I am always trying to put people on the back foot.”

Anthony Gordon has already admitted he’s frustrated with England

Gordon is relatively new to the international scene, so not starting regularly at this early stage of his England career is not hugely surprising – particularly considering the level of competition in the squad.

Still, that doesn’t mean he cannot be annoyed about the situation, and he alluded to as much when speaking after his first few minutes of the tournament on Tuesday.

Southgate may not be the most risk-taking of managers but the fact Foden has missed training should surely put Gordon in a strong position to start on the left.

If he does, you’d have to back him to succeed given how frequently he showed up in the biggest games for Newcastle last season.
