There could be a major exit at Newcastle United this week, but where to remains to be seen.
The Magpies are in a race against time to sell, with Newcastle United needing to raise funds before June 30th due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
Toon officials have accepted that the likes of Miguel Almrion or Callum Wilson will not leave this week, despite them possibly being sold before the transfer window closes in August.
But Newcastle need money now, and that is why they are turning to a player who has never kicked a ball for the club.
Newcastle United cashing in on Yankuba Minteh
Yankuba Minteh is the player who Newcastle United are trying to sell, much to his surprise.
The Magpies have decided to cash in on the 19-year-old, who is attracting a lot of interest after an impressive year on loan at Feyenoord.
For that reason, a lot of Newcastle fans are sad to see that Minteh could leave. It is a great shame, as he could go on to be special in black and white.
But it looks like someone else is going to benefit from his potential, with Toon officials looking to sell a player they value at £40million before June 30th.
Yankuba Minteh has agreed personal terms
Whether or not they get £40million remains to be seen, but there are plenty of clubs vying for the Gambia international’s signature.
In fact, one suitor already has a deal in place.
According to the Athletic, Minteh has agreed personal terms with a club, but their identity remains a mystery.
However, it does not look like the club in question is Lyon, with the Athletic adding that Minteh is yet to agree a deal with the Ligue 1 club.
That is despite Lyon being viewed as the favourites to sign him after his move to Everton collapsed. That deal collapsed when Newcastle ended their pursuit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while the Athletic state that Lyon’s proposal for Minteh is actually more favourable than Everton’s, anyway.
They add that Borussia Dortmund and Roma are also interested in Minteh.
Minteh is best placed to solve PSR problem at Newcastle
It looks like Minteh is the answer to Newcastle’s PSR problem, but there is less than a week for him to be the solution.
Sunday June 30th is the date that Newcastle are working towards. If that passes without someone being sold then there could be further issues down the line.
Right now, it feels like Minteh is the only candidate to depart. He has offers and admirers, but there is still no total agreement that suits club and player.
Interestingly, the Athletic add that Minteh could still stay at Newcastle United despite all of this speculation. That would come as a major surprise, and is surely only possible if someone else departs.
