'Emotional': Ben Osborn shares very honest Nottingham Forest admission after signing for Derby County

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn has now completed his move to local rivals Derby County.

The 29-year-old came through Forest‘s youth side to make it into the first team at the City Ground but has since moved on.

Ben Osborn‘s most recent stint came at Sheffield United who he joined after leaving Forest back in 2019 after years at the club.

Following the conclusion of his contract at Bramall Lane, Osborn has now made the hour drive south to Pride Park.

After sealing his move earlier in the week, the midfielder has now had some words to say following his time playing for the Reds.

What Ben Osborn said about his time at Forest

Over his time at the City Ground, Osborn was able to rack up 230 appearances where he scored 16 goals and provided 31 assists.

The 29-year-old became a regular in the Forest midfield during the days in the Championship before making the move to the Blades.

Osborn’s hopes of becoming a Premier League footballer were made with the Blades but he will have hoped for more consistency as Sheffield United have struggled to maintain their spot in the top flight.

Speaking to the media following his move to Pride Park, Osborn admitted he was still a Derby fan despite joining Forest.

“As soon as I left Sheffield United, I found that Derby were interested,” he said.

“It came out of the blue a little bit. I played here when I was really young, got released and went to the other side of the A52 for a number of years but still remained a Derby fan until I started getting close to the Forest first team. It all got a little muddled up then!

“I’ve gone full circle, it’s been emotional but I’m really excited to get going.”

Ben Osborn remained a good servant despite Derby connection

Although it will be always be slightly disappointing to have a player who grew up supporting your near rivals, Osborn certainly put a shift in for Forest.

And that could be seen through his last-gasp goal against the Rams back in 2015 which demonstrated his ability to get on with the job at hand.

The two sides have not played each other in over two years now and this signing does show the huge gap between the two clubs.

Osborn may have fallen short in his efforts to become a consistent Premier League player, but he can now take some pride in playing for the side who grew up supporting, but they may want to forget that goal he scored against them nine years ago.
