South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, a Republican and ally of Donald Trump, was reminded on Saturday of her puppy-killing past when she posted about visiting a man who turned 100 years old.

Noem previously admitted to killing a puppy in a "gravel pit," and then defended her actions by saying any mother on a farm would have done the same because the puppy attacked chickens. She has been haunted by the story ever since it went viral when she wrote about it in her book.

Over the weekend, she sought to tell an unrelated story, but it didn't go as planned on her social media.

"Bryon and I were in Miller, SD, to honor Charles Droz, who turned 100. We declared July 8, 2024 — his 100th birthday — Charles Droz day in South Dakota! Today was the Droz family celebration at the church, and Bryon and I were honored to be there," Noem wrote. "On July 8th, we will have a community celebration to honor this remarkable man. Charles was a legislator, Speaker of the House, served in the US Navy on the battleship Missouri, and was appointed by President Reagan to oversee farm programs in the state after farming and raising horses for many years."

She added, "Charles has been a dear friend, and I'm thankful for his help in all my campaigns over the years. It was special to be with him today and hear his stories of a life well lived!"

The comments below her post were almost exclusively about her former puppy named Cricket.
