Aston Villa could sign ‘phenomenal’ Douglas Luiz replacement with surprise Euro 2024 sensation

Aston Villa could be tempted to monitor the transfer situation of one player who is currently thriving on international duty.

Monchi will continue to explore Aston Villa’s options this summer as Unai Emery hopes to sign squad upgrades ahead of 2024/25.

The Villans have already welcomed Ian Maatsen and Lewis Dobbin to the club, with Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea set to follow in the coming days.

As well as arrivals, Villa have bid farewell to Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman, with the pending exit of Douglas Luiz the most talked about departure.

Emery will have a significant void to fill this summer as the Brazilian heads to Juventus, something the manager could solve if Monchi was to consider one player’s transfer situation.

Aston Villa must consider a move for Fabian Ruiz amid transfer rumours

As Luiz prepares to exit, Villa fans will hope to see the club welcome a player capable of replacing the 26-year-old ahead of the Champions League campaign.

Now, the perfect opportunity could arise for Monchi to consider, as FootMercato have reported that PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz could leave the club this summer.

The report claims that while the 28-year-old is ‘highly appreciated’ in Paris, the club ‘could capitalise’ on the midfielder’s performances at Euro 2024 and cash in on him this summer.

With Ruiz’s future now claimed to be ‘unclear’ at PSG, Villa should consider a swoop for the Spaniard ahead of next season, in what could prove to be a vital move.

Unai Emery could replace Douglas Luiz with Ruiz

Despite being set to welcome Ross Barkley and Barrenechea to the midfield, neither player could be considered as a technical replacement for Luiz.

The Brazilian was vital to Emery’s squad last season, adding progressive strength to the middle of the park which must be restored ahead of Villa’s Champions League quest.

Currently dazzling at Euro 2024 with Spain, Ruiz could be the perfect replacement for the Brazilian, based off his commanding yet elegant presence in the engine room.

So far at the tournament, the Spaniard has contributed to two goals in two appearances, averaging two key passes per game and a stellar pass completion rate of 94%, via Sofascore.

Now could be the prime opportunity for Villa to explore the availability of Ruiz, whose uncertain future could hand Monchi an advantage at luring the midfielder to Villa Park.

Once lauded as being ‘phenomenal at progressing the ball’ upfield by analyst Jack Fawcett, the Spain international could restore what Villa will miss without Luiz next term.

Given that Emery and Monchi have a strong track record in acquiring top Spanish talent over the years, as well as Villa being a Champions League club, the duo must test the waters in a bid to acquire the Euro 2024 star.
