How much Aston Villa must pay to sign transfer target Brais Mendez

Last week, The Express reported that Aston Villa have ‘asked about’ the availability of Real Sociedad midfielder Brais Mendez.

Following on from The Express’ claim, Villa’s interest has now been reported in Spain, as publication AS relayed just how much the Midlands club would have to pay to sign Mendez.

AS credit Villa’s interest in the Spaniard, with Roma, Napoli and Juventus also named as those eyeing the 27-year-old.

Real Sociedad are braced for more interest in their star player, however, the Spanish club are said to feel that Mendez is ‘tied and protected’ by his release clause.

Due to the attacking midfielder’s importance in Imanol Alguacil’s side, AS reports that Sociedad will remain firm by insisting that Mendez’s €60m (£50m) release clause is honoured by interested clubs.

With ‘half of Europe’ said to admire Mendez, it’s now time for Monchi to work his magic in Spain if Villa are to get their wish and sign the versatile attacker.

Mendez is what Unai Emery needs at Villa

Deployable both in central attacking midfield and on the right flank, Mendez has a transferable skill set that could hand Villa added quality ahead of their Champions League campaign.

Once lauded as ‘sensational’ by journalist Zach Lowy for his approach to play that saw him regarded as former club Celta Vigo’s ‘answer to Bruno Fernandes’, Emery could capture a top talent in Mendez.

Last season in La Liga, the attacking midfielder ranked in the top 3% of players in his position for his average of 0.60 goal-creating actions per 90, a higher average than Jude Bellingham (0.51), via FBref.

Given that Villa are about to lose their key creator Douglas Luiz, acquiring Mendez could be the light at the end of the tunnel amid the Brazilian’s departure.

Now that what Real Sociedad want for their star player is clear, it is down to Monchi and Emery to negotiate a deal to bring the Spaniard to Villa Park this summer.
