‘Still got a chance’: Tony Cascarino says exit-linked Liverpool player has a ‘big future’ under Arne Slot

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will be keen to get to know his new group of players as soon as possible.

But given that the likes of Euro 2024 and Copa America are currently taking place, Slot will be waiting a while.

His players are set to report back for pre-season duty at different stages of the summer, with some arriving early and others arriving late as the new season approaches.

The manager can, however, thoroughly consider exactly where he needs to strengthen in the transfer window for the time being.

He is tasked with building a squad capable of challenging on all fronts, with new faces definitely needed given the club’s return to the Champions League.

Jarell Quansah can become key Liverpool player – Tony Cascarino

But another priority will be keeping the majority of the current squad in place, with major changes only going to unsettle the situation at Anfield.

One player whose future on Merseyside is now uncertain is Jarell Quansah, who is wanted by Newcastle as part of the deal to sell Anthony Gordon to Liverpool.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the young centre-back this summer, but talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino believes he is highly valued at Anfield.

“I saw that line yesterday with Quansah maybe a possibility of him moving on,” Cascarino said on talkSPORT.

“I think he has still got a chance at Liverpool to be a proper centre-half. He has got a big future and I think Liverpool understand that as well.”

Will Liverpool let go of Jarell Quansah?

There remains a chance that Liverpool can agree a deal for Gordon, but it will only take place without Quansah being involved.

That should relax the Anfield faithful, with the club definitely in bigger need of their young centre-back than the Newcastle winger.

Gordon has impressed for the Magpies and indeed for England in recent times, but Liverpool are blessed with plenty of talented attackers at this moment in time.

Moreover, Gordon’s signature could be met with plenty of criticism at Anfield given that he previously lined out for fierce rivals Everton.

Quansah meanwhile has also come on leaps and bounds lately, with his displays in red earning him a call-up to the preliminary England squad for Euro 2024.

Unsurprisingly, the young centre-back didn’t make the final cut, alongside Reds teammate Curtis Jones, but Quansah’s time with the Three Lions should arrive sooner rather than later.
