Report: Tottenham are now confident they can sign 'superb' wonderkid Man City were reportedly keen on

It seems like Tottenham Hotspur could land a reported Manchester City target in the summer transfer window.

Usually, Ange Postecoglou’s side would be unable to trounce Pep Guardiola’s men in a race to sign a player for a multitude of reasons.

Last season, while Spurs finished in fifth place, City won the Premier League title for the fourth season in a row.

Furthermore, unlike at Tottenham, Manchester City guarantee players a proven track record of collective success.

Report reveals how close Tottenham are to signing Archie Gray amid Man City interest

The Lilywhites are building a project that could one day compete with the Sky Blues juggernaut.

With Guardiola also arguably being the best manager in world football, there are simply far too many reasons why a player would prefer a move to the Etihad Stadium over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But it could be that Archie Gray’s case is a unique one. Last Sunday, it was claimed that the English giants, alongside Spurs and Liverpool were interested in the youngster’s signature.

According to a report by The Athletic, while a deal has not been finalised, Tottenham, Leeds United and Manchester City-linked midfielder Gray are confident that a transfer can be completed.

It has also been stated that the teenager is set to hold talks with Spurs on Sunday and while personal terms are yet to be agreed, a move to North London seems the likeliest destination for him.

Man City do not seem too interest in Archie Gray transfer

While it would not emerge as a surprise that Manchester City were interested in signing Gray, they seem not to have pushed for his signing.

Ultimately, as talented as the highly-rated technician is, he is only 18 years old and is yet to play in the Premier League.

At Manchester City, the expectation is for players to perform as soon as they join the club.

In case they struggle, they should at least look physically and mentally ready for Premier League football.

It is difficult to determine whether that is the case with Gray — described as “superb” by Jon Newsome on BBC Leeds (February 14) — and perhaps Manchester City were more keen on signing a far more experienced midfielder as a summer signing.

Only time will tell whether the Leeds United hero is the real deal if he dons a Tottenham shirt next season.
