'Since last night': Premier League legend now working to beat Inter Miami to Raphael Varane signing - Fabrizio Romano

A Premier League legend has reportedly stepped up his efforts to sign Raphael Varane this summer despite strong links to Inter Miami.

The French defender has emerged as one of the most tantalizing free-agents in soccer this transfer window after his departure from Manchester United at the end of the season, with Inter Miami interested in signing Varane.

With the former Real Madrid star believed to be ‘tempted’ by the move, the Herons looked like the early-summer favorites to land Varane, even with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr also in the race to sign the 31-year-old.

Yet a club in Europe have now seemingly pushed their way to the front of the queue to sign Varane.

Como coach Cesc Fabregas working to beat Inter Miami to Varane

According to Fabrizio Romano, Como 1907 coach Cesc Fabregas has met with Varane to discuss a deal, with the newly promoted Serie A side now working on beating Inter Miami to the French defender.

Romano posted: “Negotiations between Raphael Varane and Como continue after initial proposal, as exclusively revealed. Varane is in Como since last night and he’s set to meet with Cesc Fabregas to discuss the project. Serie A side Como, dreaming of Varane deal. No talks at all with Roma.”

With Como one of the most exciting up-and-coming clubs in Europe with some huge names linked with the project, Varane could be tempted by a move with northern Italy where the former United defender would be the marquee signing.

As for Inter Miami, their bid to sign Varane has now just got complicated, with the Herons now facing competition from a Premier League legend in Fabregas, who could convince the former Madrid defender to choose Como over Florida this summer.

Varane could be torn between Como or MLS this summer

Varane is at a stage in his career where he could be looking to settle down for his future, and the choice of Como in Serie A or Inter Miami in MLS could be a hard one for the defender to choose.

As mentioned, Fabregas’ Como are one of the most exciting projects in Europe and could one day become one of the biggest clubs in Italy if the newly promoted Serie A side can maintain their current trajectory.

However, life in the US and Florida with Inter Miami could be appealing for Varane, who might relish in MLS alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at this stage in his career.
