Joseph Willett-Barney locked up on charges of kidnap, witness intimidation, strangulation and coercive control in Newbury

A MAN has been locked up on charges including kidnap, strangulation and witness intimidation.

Joseph Willett-Barney appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 31.

The 25-year-old, whose address was given as the Cherry Bird Country Park, Lower Farm Court, Newbury, faces seven charges in total.

Specifically, he faces two charges of intentional strangulation.

Next, Mr Willett-Barney is accused of kidnap and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Her faces further charges of witness intimidation, possessing an imitation firearm and engaging in coercive or controlling behaviour.

All the offences relate to one female alleged victim and were said to have been committed in Newbury on various dates in April and May.

Mr Willett-Barney was told the case was being sent to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury sitting at Reading Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

He was meanwhile denied bail and was remanded in custody.
