Report: Everton still ‘can’t be ruled out’ of race for £17m winger who is close to joining another club

Everton’s summer has been largely flawless thus far, having shipped out some of the less-important players to make way for some impressive acquisitions.

After seeking to dampen fans’ expectations, Kevin Thelwell is soaring into the market with speed and precision, with three signings already seemingly wrapped up and more to come.

However, having failed to sign Yankuba Minteh despite him prioritising Everton, attention has turned elsewhere regarding wingers.

And despite another speed bump on their latest saga, this latest report has sought to rekindle hope amongst Evertonians.

Everton still in the race for Jaden Philogene

The latest on the future of Hull City’s Jaden Philogene comes courtesy of TEAMtalk, who offer a comprehensive cover of the interested parties.

After one Sky Sports journalist confirmed Barcelona’s £17m bid for Philogene, it was felt like Everton might just lack the allure needed to capture such a bright young talent.

However, that is apparently far from the case: ‘Barcelona have reportedly submitted a concrete offer for Hull City winger Jaden Philogene but Tottenham and Everton can’t be ruled out of the race yet.

‘The 22-year-old captured the attention of football fans worldwide when he scored a stunning rabona earlier this year which many think should win the 2024 Puskas award. Although, technically, it should have been marked down as an own goal.

‘Meanwhile, sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that Everton have made an enquiry to Hull about signing Philogene as their hunt for a new winger intensifies, as first called by ElBobble.

‘The Toffees have re-signed Jack Harrison on loan from Leeds United but with Lewis Dobbin joining Aston Villa, they need to sign at least one more winger this summer.

‘Newcastle’s Yankuba Minteh was their top target but Brighton look set to win the race for him, so Sean Dyche and Co have turned their attention to Philogene as an alternative.’

How good is Jaden Philogene?

Whilst most will know about Philogene from his stunning Rabona goal against Rotherham back in February, there is far more to this young winger than just this strike.

Although, it does encapsulate everything great about the livewire, showcasing his quick feet, magical skill and end product to back it up.

He finished last season having scored 12 and assisted a further six during a Championship season where his side only narrowly missed out on the play-off spots.

What makes Philogene such a good fit for Everton is his versatility, having starred equally off both flanks during this standout campaign, as well as his raw pace, which is sorely lacking throughout Sean Dyche’s team.

Hopefully, should he snub Barcelona in favour of the Toffees, he can prove to quickly become a key member of this squad in what will be their final year at Goodison Park.
