Report: West Ham interested in Euro 2024 star who's 'one of the best in the world', it would cost £40m

West Ham have joined the race to sign a Euro 2024 star and have been told how much the deal would cost, according to a recent report.

Hammers chiefs will be keeping a close eye on all of the proceedings at the European Championships in Germany as they look to make a number of additions in the transfer window.

Julen Lopetegui has already added Luis Guilherme to his ranks and now seems to be after a central defender.

That said, it’d cost over £40m to land the one he’s after, as he’s sought after by a number of top clubs around the continent.

West Ham join race for Riccardo Calafiori

According to The Express, West Ham have joined the race to sign Italy and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori who’s ‘one of the best in the world’.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Juventus have all been mooted as potential destinations, so The Hammers will have to fend off stiff competition.

They’ll also need to fork out in excess of £40m for his signature as his previous club Basel have a 40 per cent sell-on clause for any sale over £5m.

The 2002-born looked on the verge of joining Juventus at one stage but that move seemed to break down over the cost of the deal.

West Ham could offer player plus cash

In order to entice Bologna, West Ham should offer a player-plus-cash deal, with Nayef Aguerd potentially going the other way.

Aguerd looks set to leave the club, anyhow, with a rumoured move to Atletico Madrid, so it’d make sense for all parties to at least propose him as part of the offer.

Both defenders are left-footed, so it’d be the ideal replacement for the Serie A side.
