'In my entire life': Tom King makes intriguing claim about Gary O'Neil after his MNF appearance last year

Wolves goalkeeper Tom King has claimed he is doing one thing more than he’s ever done in his career because of Gary O’Neil.

King sat down to do an interview with the club just before the end of last season.

The Molineux number three spoke about his time at the club so far, after joining last summer from Northampton Town.

King has yet to make a first-team appearance for Wolves, with Jose Sa and Dan Bentleywhom he branded ‘an unbelievable guy’ – both ahead of him in the pecking order.

But King knows his role and has fully bought into everything Gary O’Neil has been trying to do.

The 29-year-old is a big fan of the Wolves head coach.

Last October, O’Neil went on Sky Sports’ flagship show Monday Night Football as their guest.

He explained to viewers how he was able to mastermind wins over Bournemouth and Manchester City, and fans were blown away by his presentation.

O’Neil came across superbly that night, and offered a lot of insight into the way Wolves were trying to play.

King spoke about that MNF appearance, and insisted it wasn’t for show and that he is like that every single day.

He said (Wolves official): “I am taking on more information about outfield play than I ever have in my entire life.

“It’s been well documented that the manager went on Monday Night Football and did a whole presentation about what we’re doing in training.

“That is every day, that isn’t just ‘he’s put on a persona to go on the TV on Sky Sports and show everybody, these are all the best bits’.

“That is every single day, every single meeting and training session, he is out there applying those philosophies and tactics. It’s a whole new way of playing for me.”

King claim about O’Neil shows Wolves are in great hands

It is interesting to hear King speak about O’Neil and what he’s like behind the scenes at Wolves.

That appearance on MNF really was fantastic and really insightful, and O’Neil is someone who is extremely big on details and a workaholic.

Those things mean that Wolves are in safe hands under him.

We saw the potential of this team under him last season. If they back him appropriately for 2024/25, then there is no reason why Wolves can’t finish in the top half at least.

It has been a very productive start to the summer, so hopefully the squad will be in good shape come August.
