Wolves have already signed Rodrigo Gomes this summer with Pedro Lima expected to officially join in the coming days.

However, one position that has long-needed upgrades is up top. Now, it seems that O’Neil may have found his striker as the club closes in on Larsen.

Who is Jorgen Strand Larsen?

Larsen is an attacker who plays in the Spanish La Liga for Celta Viga. Standing at 1.93 metres which is six foot four inches, he is a massive presence on any pitch.

The forward is also still relatively young. Larsen was born in Halden, Norway on February 6, 2000. At the time of writing, this makes him 24 years old.

Larsen has mainly been utilised as a central striker throughout his career. His height and physical presence allow him to hold the ball up as well as be an aerial threat.

However, the attacker can also play on either wing, with the 24-year-old being versatile in the attacking areas.

What are Jorgen Strand Larsen’s feats?

So far in his career, Larsen has impressed at every club. The Norwegian came through the youth system in his home country, playing for Sarpsborg 08. Here, in his youth, he was loaned to AC Milan after impressing at an early age.

In 2020, he moved to Dutch side FC Groningen. In the Eredivisie, he quickly made his mark and netted 17 times in 35 games. This saw Larsen selected in the Eredivisie Team of the Month for November 2022 and named Groningen’s Player of the Year in May 2022.

A transfer to Celta Vigo followed in the 2022/23 campaign. Despite a slower start, last season Larsen finished as the club’s top scorer with 13 goals.

Larsen is also a regular for Norway after progressing through their youth sides. At the time of writing, the striker has 14 caps for his country since making his debut in 2020. He has scored three times.

According to Fbref, there are plenty of fantastic statistics that should get Wolves fans excited about Larsen.

In the 2023/24 season, the striker averaged 2.58 shots and 1.1 on target per game. He also produced a npxG of 0.46 and won 2.29 aerial duels every 90 minutes.

Larsen’s hold-up play would allow other players to come into the game. 1.92 shot-creating actions were as a result of the striker per game.

Finally, despite his size, Larsen was often successful at taking on his opponent, doing it at a rate of 0.91 per 90 minutes.

Is Jorgen Strand Larsen good?

An article from Libertad Digital compared Larsen to Haaland. The piece highlights his ‘killer instinct’ in front of goal while also praising his hold-up play and his ability to bring his teammates into the game.

Adding to this, his current manager Rafa Benitez also believed that he could play Premier League football in the future.

When Larsen was asked about this in March, he told Marca: “Playing in the Premier League has been a dream since I was little but I am very happy to be here and we will see what happens next.

“The most important thing is that the team saves itself and goes up the table, that it scores goal number ten and then more.

“Of course, it is a dream to play in the Premier League but I am not thinking much about it. As the coach says, I have to improve a few more things and I will be able to go to the Premier but now it is too early.”

Are Wolves interested in Jorgen Strand Larsen?

It was reported on Thursday that Wolves were pursuing Larsen. O’Neil had been after reinforcements up top with the club only having one senior striker in 2024.

Fabrizio Romano reported that the two clubs were in advanced talks with negotiations moving quickly. It is said that Larsen is keen on the move and Wolves are confident of getting it done.

It is claimed by Il Tempo (via Forza Roma) that Wolves have placed a bid worth in the region of £34 million for the Norway international.
