Alasdair Gold has just posted latest update on Archie Gray to Tottenham after 'whirlwind 24 hours'

Journalist Alasdair Gold has now shared a promising update on the prospect of Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray joining Tottenham Hotspur.

On Saturday evening it seemed almost certain that Gray would be a new Brentford player, he was even travelling to London for a medical.

But the deal broke down in the eleventh hour owing to a disagreement in the proposed payment plan between Brentford and Leeds.

And upon that collapse, Spurs hastily made their move.

Tottenham are said to be confident of completing a deal for Gray, who made 52 appearances for Leeds in all competitions last season.

Although predominantly considered a defensive midfielder, over half of those minutes came at right-back, explaining the tactical flexibility Gray could provide Ange Postecoglou.

Gray now has two caps for England u21s and looks destined to be a regular for the senior side in the coming years – an immense talent.

That being said, Alasdair Gold has now shared his latest update on the deal on X.

‘Growing confidence’ that Tottenham can conclude a deal for Leeds’ Archie Gray

The journalist had good news for Tottenham fans, sharing that there was ‘growing confidence’ in north London that an agreement would soon be reached.

Gold shared: “Growing confidence now that Spurs will reach an agreement to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United.

“What a whirlwind 24 hours. Tottenham seizing on the opportunity left by Brentford being unable to agree the deal with Leeds.”

And given the financial muscle that Spurs possess, this is the exact kind of energy fans will want to see from the club in the transfer market.

Postecoglou desperately needs more quality to match his ambitions at Tottenham, and securing Gray for the future certainly bodes well.

Gray could be an immediate starter in midfield, able to also dovetail with Pedro Porro in defence when needed.

Of course, a deal for the Leeds midfielder should only be the start for Tottenham, who need several additions this summer.

RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo was superb at Euro 2024 on Sunday, explaining why Spurs are thought to be interested.

And realistically Tottenham will need to add four or five high-quality players for their XI this summer, and perhaps even more should the likes of Richarlison and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave the club.
