Report: There are now internal fears that 'phenomenal' Newcastle star may have had his head turned

Some of Newcastle United’s key players were being linked with moves away during a frantic few days of transfer rumours.

Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh eventually left Newcastle as they raised funds in order to stay on the right side of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

It is believed that they are now on the right side of them and are likely to avoid a ten-point deduction as a result.

Still, there were some scary moments, it seems.

Eddie Howe was reportedly telling PIF not to sell Alexander Isak amid interest from Chelsea, while another star name was being touted for an exit.

Anthony Gordon, hailed as “phenomenal” by pundit Jeff Stelling, is believed to have been the subject of transfer talks involving Liverpool.

Fears Anthony Gordon may have had his head turned amid Liverpool transfer talks

According to The Athletic, talks with the Reds were held out of desperation as Newcastle tried to keep on the right side for the PSR tightrope.

Newcastle, of course, wanted to keep the 23-year-old but there are now reportedly lingering fears behind the scenes that his head may have been turned.

Anthony Gordon has already said he’s excited about next season at Newcastle

Hopefully, Gordon will understand the talks appear to have been held out of desperation.

The 23-year-old has been talking about how excited he is to begin next season at St James’ Park. The manager and the fans can do little about the PSR situation, so it would be a shame to see the relationship break down (there’s no suggestion it has) just because of desperation to comply.

Selling Gordon, particularly now the PSR rules look to have been complied with, would be truly gutting.

Now the tightrope has successfully been walked, let’s hope we can all move on.
