'Getting closer': Sheffield Wednesday now set to sign 23 G/A gem 'in the next couple of days' - journalist

Sheffield Wednesday look set for another busy week after being linked with a number of players.

Svante Ingelsson and Jamal Lowe joined the club over the weekend, making up five quality signings that Sheffield Wednesday have completed so far.

The Owls still need to add a number of players to their ranks to ensure they can push for a top half finish next season.

Danny Rohl’s current focus seems to be bolstering his attack, after already snapping up the versatile Lowe for his frontline.

While they are desperate to bring in a new striker, their sixth signing of the summer looks set to be a winger.

Sheffield Wednesday are ‘getting closer’ to signing Polish gem

It was reported over the weekend that Wednesday were interested in signing Arka Gdynia attacker Olaf Kobacki.

Journalist Alex Miller has now claimed that they are ‘getting closer’ to agreeing a deal for the 22-year-old.

He wrote on X: “#SWFC getting closer to finalising a deal to sign Polish winger, Olaf Kobacki, and making him the club’s sixth signing of the summer…

“Got 23 goals and assists last season, there’s hope that it could be completed in the next couple of days.”

Kobacki began his career in Serie A with Atalanta, before returning to his native Poland in 2021.

After picking up five goal contributions whilst on loan at Miedz Legnica last term, he returned to Gdynia and netted 16 goals and provided seven assists in 37 matches as they finished third in the Polish top division.

Kobacki looks set to complete his move to Hillsborough this week, racing against James Beadle to become their sixth signing of the summer.

Can Olaf Kobacki make the jump to the Championship?

Wednesday look eager to bolster their attack and could have a whole new front three once they sign a new forward.

However, the Poland youth international will have a lot to live up to if he is to successfully make the jump to the Championship.

He is clearly very prolific in his home country, but it is a big ask moving to English football and Rohl could have his work cut out in balancing experience, potential and talent.
