Prince Harry admitting he was 'eaten away inside' makes William video even more tragic

Prince Harry opened up over the impact of Princess Diana’s death and the years that followed, engulfed in grief. In the particularly poignant discussion, it draws conclusions to the time he sat down with his brother William and the brothers confessed they never spoke about her passing while growing up.

The Duke of Sussex made an appearance ahead of the weekend with a charity that works with the families and children of those serving or have served in the Armed Forces. Prince Harry opened up over the loss of his mother to the charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers. The 39-year-old, who served two tours in Afghanistan, admitted how Princess Diana‘s death affected him for years that followed. However, it’s even more tragic looking back at a similar confession he made with his brother Prince William several years ago.

Diana’s death ate ‘Prince Harry away inside’

Speaking to the children and young teenagers who have lost a parent in conflict, the Duke told them: “If you suppress it forever, it will eat you away inside”

Princess Diana passed away in 1997 following a car crash in Paris, although her legacy as the People’s Princess still leaves on more than 25 years later.

Some commentators have said it feels like we have the ‘old’ Harry back, from before the time he left The Firm with his wife Meghan Markle.

Cameron Walker, royal correspondent for GB News, said: “The difference here, instead of talking about himself, which clearly we’ve heard a lot of from the last three years from Prince Harry… he was putting the spotlight back on the charity.”

He added: “It was almost like having the old Prince Harry back, and also thinking about could have been if he didn’t step back as a working member of the royal family.”

Cameron suggested: “It is kind of like before the days of Megxit.”

“He did talk briefly about his own experience about losing his mother, Princess Diana,” the correspondent continued. “He talked about how a first instinct of a child when they lose a parent in awful circumstances ‘I have to be really sad for the rest of my life’ and he talks about how those children who’ve lost parents through conflict feel like that. It’s okay to be happy again later on in life when you’ve had the support.”

Harry admitted he didn’t speak to William about their mother’s death

In 2017, William, Kate Middleton and Harry sat down to launch their Heads Together campaign for mental health. They wanted to raise awareness of seeking help and support, no matter if your physical or mental health is suffering.

During a candid conversation, the siblings admitted that although they’re honest with each, they rarely spoke about their mom.

Prince William said: “Both of us have always been open with the other, but we’ve never really talked about it, losing a mom at such a young age. When you speak to other people and their families and their kids, and you don’t want them to go through the same thing, with a little bit of experience, you want to help them as much as you can.”

He added: “We were uniquely bonded because of what we’ve been through, but you know, even Harry and I, over the years, have not talked enough about our mother.”

“Never enough,” Harry admitted.

“You said to me, ‘You’ve got to sit down and think about those memories’, for me, it was like ‘I don’t want to think about it,’” he added.

Harry now confessing her death ‘ate away’ at him inside, makes the 2017 clip even more tragic, knowing he didn’t speak to his brother William about it as they navigated their grief.

Although, considering their history, it’s not the only heartbreaking thing William said about Harry over the years.
