Report: Arsenal target compared to Wayne Rooney has now decided to join PSG instead

Arsenal now look set to lose out to PSG on a transfer target after the player himself told his club he wants a move to the Parc des Princes.

The French giants are facing a pivotal summer of recruitment as they attempt to replace what Kylian Mbappe brought to the frontline – and the Parisians now look set to sign one of Europe’s most precocious talents.

So, which Arsenal target has now decided to join PSG? Let’s take a look…

Arsenal target Desire Doue chooses to join PSG

An exclusive report from us here at TBR Football in May revealed that Arsenal have been closely monitoring Rennes No.33 Desire Doue – and planned to compete for his signature this summer.

The 19-year-old has blossomed into one of the brightest talents in France in recent times, making 43 appearances in all competitions for Rennes last season, scoring four goals while also providing six assists.

Now – according to PSG Inside – Doue has told Rennes he wants to join the Parisians.

It is said that Rennes will not stand in the France U23 international’s way after a phone call took place between PSG and the teenager’s representatives, so barring any late shocks, it would seem the Angers-born wonderkid is moving to Paris.

That will surely be hard to take for Mikel Arteta and Edu, given the Frenchman’s remarkable potential – The Athletic have even compared him to Wayne Rooney, such is his powerful physique for a young man.

Mikel Arteta and Edu should keep tracking the 19-year-old

Despite a move to PSG now looking imminent for Doue, it was always unlikely that he would walk straight into Arsenal’s starting XI given the attacking talent the Gunners already have.

Doue would have needed to compete against Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah for a place in the frontline, whereas opportunities are seemingly going to be more frequent at PSG now Mbappe has left for Real Madrid.

Therefore, the timing might be better for Arsenal to sign the French wonderkid later down the line – so long as his price tag doesn’t soar to unreachable levels across the next five years.
