Tottenham Hotspur fail with approach for another wonderkid signing as Archie Gray prepares to sign

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on one signing but seemingly have some work to do on landing another.

Ange Postecoglou needs additions this summer as the embarks on his third transfer window as Tottenham Hotspur boss.

Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner have already been secured but Tottenham are working on more deals.

Reports suggest that Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray is on the verge of a £40million move to North London.

Joe Rodon is heading in the opposite direction with the Welsh defender set to complete a permanent move to Leeds.

Tottenham continue to focus on signing young talents for the future but one target is proving a little difficult to acquire.

Tottenham Hotspur bid for Michael Kayode

Gray’s arrival gives Tottenham a potential star of the future in midfield, but he can also play at right back – as we saw with Leeds this past season.

The 18-year-old fits the bill in terms of an inverted full back and could serve as competition for Pedro Porro moving forward.

Tottenham are still being linked with another right back though, possibly meaning that Gray will predominantly be a midfielder upon arriving at Spurs.

That is because Viola News in Italy report that Tottenham have made an offer for Fiorentina talent Michael Kayode.

Fabio Paratici may not officially work for Tottenham anymore but he continues to serve as a consultant, so it’s no surprise to see Serie A talents linked.

It’s suggested that Tottenham and Aston Villa have both submitted proposals for Kayode, but both offers were below €20million (£17million).

Fiorentina want at least £21million for Kayode, so there is a gap to be bridged in terms of valuation.

Kayode started on the books at Juventus before heading to lower league side Gozzano, where he managed 34 senior appearances as a teenager.

Fiorentina pounced in 2021 and Kayode has shown real potential in Serie A.

Kayode has played three times for the Italy Under-21’s and there are high hopes for his future over in Italy.

Whether Tottenham will really push to strike a deal remains to be seen, especially having seemingly closed a deal to sign Gray.

Perhaps Spurs will consider a Destiny Udogie-style deal; a cash move now but with a loan back to Fiorentina to continue his development.

Signing Kayode just after landing Gray would be something of a surprise, but the Fiorentina talent is one to keep an eye on moving forward.
