How the national media reacted to Romelu Lukaku's Belgium display vs France at Euro 2024

Belgium were eliminated by France on Monday evening at Euro 2024.

Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku played every minute for Belgium at this summer’s Euros tournament, but his focus will now turn to towards his club future after his nation’s exit from the international competition.

France recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over Belgium in the last-16 stage. Unfortunately, Jan Vertonghen’s 85th minute own goal separated the teams.

For Lukaku, he failed to score in any of Belgium’s four matches at Euro 2024.

The 31-year-old striker is usually prolific when representing his country. He’s scored 85 goals in 118 Belgium caps.

However, it’s been a tournament to forget for him.

Belgian media reacts to Romelu Lukaku’s display against France

Lukaku has received a pretty damning assessment from the Belgian media after his contribution in the France defeat.

It’s certainly feels like Belgium’s golden generation is over and they’ve failed to win any trophy as a country.

Het Belang van Limburg wrote: “Romelu Lukaku – 4/10. Wasn’t really in the game before the break. Poked at Maignan’s fists. Couldn’t threaten much, and also had a lot of misunderstandings. Not his best tournament.”

His match statistics are not pretty

Lukaku battled and struggled away while leading the line in Belgium’s loss against France, where they had just 45% possession.

He was isolated and couldn’t get much change out of the French defence.
