Report: How much Newcastle are now looking to receive for Miguel Almiron amid Saudi interest

After the PSR drama of June 30th, Newcastle United are looking to sell more players, with Miguel Almiron’s future very much up in the air.

The Magpies have been forced to sell to comply with PSR, with Yankuba Minteh joining Brighton and Elliot Anderson signing for Nottingham Forest.

It is really disappointing to see both players go, as they are young prospects who could have had really bright futures at St James’ Park. It is particularly agonising to see Anderson depart, as he is a local lad who has shown so much promise.

But Newcastle simply had to sell to avoid a future points deduction, and can now really attack the summer transfer window now that the PSR deadline has passed.

Another attacker could leave Newcastle United

Toon fans are excited to see who could arrive, and there is hope that Newcastle can splash the cash following the big money exits of Minteh and Anderson.

However, there could still be more departures from St James’ Park this summer.

There was an acceptance that Miguel Almiron would not be sold before the PSR deadline, likely due to his Copa America commitments. But he could still be sold soon, and Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has stated that the Magpies are in talks to sell the 30-year-old to a club in Saudi Arabia.

Ben Jacobs details how much Newcastle United want for Miguel Almiron

A move to a Saudi Pro League club has always felt possible for Almiron, and journalist Ben Jacobs has provided a bit more information on the Paraguayan’s future following Downie’s story.

Jacobs wrote on X: “Situation with Miguel Almiron is that Newcastle are open to offers. Understand the figure discussed is around £20m. Early interest from Saudi, as @SkySports_Keith called. Understand Almiron is on Al-Qadsiah’s list of options, but not thought to be their priority target. Al-Shabab willing to return only if they receive clear encouragement having failed to sign Almiron in January. Steven Gerrard’s Ettifaq not currently working on a deal for Almiron despite links. Central dealmakers and PIF clubs still assessing the possibility. Main thing they are waiting on is whether Almiron has changed his mind about Saudi having been reluctant to move in January.”

Almiron has a big decision to make this summer

With Newcastle looking to receive around £20million for Almiron, it shows that he alone would not have solved the Magpies’ PSR problem. But it would still be decent money for a 30-year-old who cost a similar amount when he arrived on Tyneside in January 2019.

But the big question regarding Miggy is whether or not he wants to move to Saudi Arabia. He did not in January, which resulted in him staying at St James’ Park despite Newcastle wanting to sell.

Now Almiron could have a fresh chance to go to the Middle East, and it remains to be seen whether or not it is a chance he is willing to take. It is a tough one, and perhaps he should seek advice from former Toon teammate Allan Saint-Maximin, who made the move last summer.

For Newcastle, they will hope that Almiron agrees to go to Saudi Arabia. That is their best chance of getting good money for him, and that will only enhance the club’s ability to reinvest further ahead of the 2024/25 season.

While the PSR problems have passed, the player sales are not going to end. Newcastle have got plenty of players that they are willing to move on, and Almiron is one of them. They want £20million, but might only get it if Almiron has a change of heart about playing in Saudi Arabia.
