Report: Middlesbrough now set to receive seven-figure transfer windfall after Premier League transfer

Middlesbrough are set to receive a seven-figure transfer windfall this summer thanks to a Premier League transfer.

Middlesbrough have been active on the transfer front this summer, with a number of arrivals and exits already taking place on Teesside.

On the incoming front, Boro have signed Aidan Morris, Luke Ayling, and Delano Burgzorg in permanent moves.

On the exit front, meanwhile, several names have already left Middlesbrough on permanent and temporary deals.

First-team coach Aaron Danks departed the North East outfit for Bayern Munich and was replaced by Graeme Carrick.

Paddy McNair and Liam Roberts have left the club on free transfers, while Hayden Coulson was sold to League One side, Blackpool.

The latest departure from Teesside saw winger Sammy Silvera join Championship rivals Portsmouth on loan for the 2024/25 season.

These four players moving on has handed Boro some extra funds for the 2024 summer window and they could now be set for a further cash injection.

Middlesbrough set to receive funds from Nathan Wood transfer

Middlesbrough’s incoming cash injection does not come from the sale of a current player, though, but from a former star.

The player in question is Nathan Wood, who joined Middlesbrough’s academy as a youngster before making 14 senior appearances for the club.

The 22-year-old was sold to Swansea City in 2022 but now looks set to leave the Welsh outfit for Premier League side, Southampton.

According to Teesside Live, Boro are set for a cash boost this summer as Wood is closing in on a move to the Saints.

The figure Southampton will pay for Wood is unknown, but they saw two offers worth up to £10m rejected for the centre-back last year.

Middlesbrough inserted a sell-on clause when Wood moved to Swansea and while the percentage is unknown, Teesside Live report it is ‘very healthy’ and likely at least 10%.

As a result, if Swansea hold out for more than the £10m they previously rejected for Wood, over £1m could be heading the club’s way this summer thanks to Southampton.

Wood cash injection is a big boost for Middlesbrough

While a fee of around £1m is not an awful lot for some clubs, especially those in the Premier League, it is very helpful to Middlesbrough.

The North East outfit made a £57m loss during the previous three years but due to the nature of PSR, are still able to spend this summer.

Now, with an extra £1m heading Boro’s way this summer, their ability to further strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad has increased.

Another striker to provide competition for Emmanuel Latte Lath remains a priority for the club.

Reinforcements in midfield and on the wing should also be something Middlesbrough look at in the remainder of the window.

And given Boro have already signed three players for around £5.5m, the Wood money could play a key role in the club making a fourth addition this summer.
